Dahlias, the Darlings of the Waynesville Council of Garden Clubs.
September 7th, 2008 Categories: Community, Things to Do, Videos and Slideshows
Waynesville’s Council of Garden Clubs hosted their annual Dahlia Show at the Haywood County Public Library September 4th and 5th. They provided a great opportunity to view and enjoy many beautiful, locally-grown Dahlias. The show was absolutely free, and the flowers were absolutely exquisite, as you will see in the slide show below.

Haywood County is Home to Trudy Cinque, a Very Talented Stained Glass Artist.
August 28th, 2008 Categories: Community, Videos and Slideshows
Trudy Cinque’s stained glass art work is breathtaking. The 39 photos on this slide show were taken yesterday of some (by no means all) of the stained glass work she has done over the years which is ‘living’ in and around her beautiful, unique home. Trudy never sold her work. She gave some of it away as gifts, made some of it specifically for her home, and some of her work is in museums. You will see a couple of photos of Trudy during the slide show if you look carefully.
She is a true Haywood County treasure. Her husband Jim, is talented too. He sent me home with a signed copy of his book, The Christine Emerald.

Pants on Fire? Maggie Valley Volunteer Fire Department to the Rescue!
August 24th, 2008 Categories: Community, Videos and Slideshows
We are waiting for rain to fill our creeks and drench our gardens here in Haywood County, NC. Locals say that the dry summer leads to exceptionally spectacular colors when the leaves start turning in the not-too-distant future. Dryer than normal conditions here in Maggie Valley remind us of the importance of fire safety, and of our Maggie Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
These trucks were sitting outside yesterday, all cleaned and spit-shined. Who doesn’t love looking at bright red firetrucks (and firemen)?

August 17th, 2008 Categories: Community, Things to Do, Videos and Slideshows
The art of stained glass is alive and thriving in Waynesville, North Carolina, at Dianne Lee’s The Stained Glass Bungalow. Dianne Lee, a talented, accomplished and commissioned stained glass artist (and winner of professional accolades), treated me to a tour of her studio, and an up-close and personal look at her newest work of art, a beautiful new lamp, among other treasures.
Working with homeowners, designers, and architects, Dianne creates original and unique stained glass works of art for her clients in the tradition of the Arts & Crafts period, including lamps, transoms, windows, doors, cabinet doors, entryways… anything the client desires. Drawing on her experience in horticulture and landscape design, Dianne captures the beauty and colors of our Blue Ridge Mountains, and our native flowers and plants, for her exquisite stained glass creations.
She will make your home or business a work of art! Give her a call at 828-400-4002, and visit her website, StainedGlassBungalow.com.
