Down Home Downtown Waynesville Dishes Up An Apple Harvest Festival.

What’s not to love about apples, apple cider, fudge, sizzling sausages, and Holy Smoke barbecue? The 2009 Apple Harvest Festival yesterday filled Downtown Waynesville’s Main Street with people bundled in jackets, carrying umbrellas (umbrellas are scary things when you like to wear wigs), and eating festival food.

Talented artists, crafters, photographers, jewelry-makers, and clothing vendors made me very envious. My favorite ‘discovery’ at the Festival was the gentleman shoving sorghum into a press, extracting the ’syrup.’ I tasted the ‘finished’ molasses product, and would love to have a jar of it for myself (he wasn’t selling any). What a difference between ‘fresh’ and store-bought molasses.

Apple cakes, apple cider, and bags of apples were in abundance, and I hope to find the recipe for the blue ribbon winner of the “2009 Apple Bake-Off” (pictured in the video below).
