What Am I Doing While The Real Estate Market Sucks?

NewspapersWhat am I doing while there are an abundance of foreclosures and short sales in my area? I have chosen to immerse myself in projects to build my business, my internet presence, and perpetuate my plans for life in an Airstream, rather than surround myself in what, to me, are negative and sad aspects of real estate. Do not mistake my path as one I am taking because I am not in immediate need of deposits into my bank account. And don’t spank me either – - I am well aware that some people like, and are very adept at, foreclosures and short sales – - they just are NOT for me.

Instead of dealing with the sad and negative market, I am working on positive aspects of my own real estate business, such as, attending:

REBar Camp Charlotte.

Last week (you may already know) I attended the GREAT REBar Camp Charlotte ‘event,’ an excellent source of new friends and new and continuing education for me and for my business. Progressive, forward-thinking realtors. Yes! Not to mention meeting Zillow’s David Gibbons, talking to Jeff Corbett, and sitting right across from Jeff Turner during dinner.

Marketing.

Tomorrow I am meeting with the developers and principals of a golf-course development here in Haywood County who want my assistance promoting their already-successful development which has been in business for a number of years.

Horses.

David Stoecklein photoAnother aspect, and a big part of my business plan, is my new horse website, Horsealicious. Horses have been a life long passion of mine, and I have many years of riding and showing experience to lend to the flavor of my horse website and my business.

The tweets I received during the past two weeks (starting one day after I started posting on my horse website) from the winner of the Kentucky Derby, Mine That Bird, and Friesan Fire, another Triple Crown contender, have served as omens and reminders to me that following my passion (horses) will get me where I want to be – - doing what I love and am passionate about in life.

Horse Property.

Haywood County is not ‘horse country;’ however, my sights are not set within the confines of North Carolina. Ultimately, between my Haywood County Real Estate Blog, my Bare Naked Real EstateLocalism and NorthCarolinalicous (NorthCarolinalicious not really ready yet) sites on Active Rain, my own Horsealicious website (built by Dakno), and my Breaking News websites – - Breaking Asheville News and Breaking Horse News – - I hope to incorporate horses and horse properties ‘to a higher degree’ into my business plan. Breaking Horse Property News is in the wings.

Breaking News Sites.

If you haven’t gotten on board with Domus Consulting (Pat Kitano and Kevin Boer) to discuss your own Breaking News site(s), you are really missing an excellent opportunity to contribute to your Community in a way that no one else is doing, and that provides a service to your community as well. Haven’t you mailed out enough recipes? Call Pat Kitano with your questions – 415-320-2844.

Mike Mueller.

Facebook buttonMike Mueller, Tech and Social Media Consultant, just created a great Facebook Fan Page for Horsealicious, and he also created great ‘buttons’ for my sidebar to go on Horsealicious – - one button for the Facebook site (pictured here), and one button for the Breaking Horse News site. He was a BIG help, and obviously very knowledgeable in many arenas. Maybe he will help me finish up my NorthCarolinalicious site, as it needs artwork, and a bit of customization. The Horsealicious Fan Page Mike did for me is beautiful, and if you need help with social media and/or Facebook,  you can’t go wrong with Mike – - from the horse’s mouth.

If you hear of any great deals on an Airstream, you know where to find me.

    Hi Susie,
Good for you and I am working on many things myself. I too sometimes feel very blue after a days work because of the shortsales and foreclosures..but for some reason real estate is in my blood..my plan was to be a referral agent..but it seems business is trickling in and it happens to be short sales…but I am still debating.
