Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Former CEO Speaks Up.
“TM: What did you think when the consulting company used phrases such as “bunker mentality” or “culture of fear” when discussing your tenure as the CEO?
DR: It depends on who they talked to. There were some employee problems, but the majority of the staff was part of the team to make things work. We couldn’t have achieved quality status if we didn’t have a team that worked well together. Quality outcomes are not achieved from the top down. The vision comes from top, but the achievement comes from bottom up. If the employees were so demoralized, the hospital would never have achieved the quality it did.”
