If you are considering buying a home and have no idea what you can afford, but you don’t want to have to give out your social security number, name or phone number, create a Loan Request at Zillow Mortgage and get your answer.

This does not mean ‘pre-approval.’ By completing the Zillow Mortgage loan request, you will merely have an idea of what you can afford according to various lenders.

If you want your realtor to drive you around to look at homes, you’ll have to get down to the nitty-gritty, fess up to a live person that your Neiman-Marcus bill is huge, and show up to look at homes with your Pre-Approval from your lender in hand.

   I haven’t had a chance to use Zillow’s marketplace service personally but I’ve heard mixed things about it. I can see where it works for the consumer with one caveat…do your due diligence before finally signing anything.

   All in all, I think it’s a good thing and a good way at getting some answers.
