What’s new regarding the Haywood Regional Medical Center implosion?

New, tangible information about the status of our local hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center, in the midst of the Medicare/Medicaid implosion, is scarce right now, but there is no lack of discussion wherever I go. Progress continues, day in and day out, in HRMC ’s efforts to regain Medicare/Medicaid status as quickly as possible.
What are the HRMC Doctors saying?
Do you think the Hospital will be able to eventually command the necessary respect to prosper on its own, or is new ownership the answer? Here is what some of the doctors are saying:
““Physicians and the community won’t let this hospital fold,” said Dr. David Markoff, “but there are a lot of well-run big hospital systems. Maybe this don’t have to buy it, but maybe help us run it for a year.”
Mina, however, had lingering concerns about the community perception of the hospital if there wasn’t a change of ownership.
“It could take years to bring back the trust of the community,” he said. “If another hospital took over or there was some type of joint venture, perhaps the public would trust another name with some experience on the door. But that’s up to the hospital board and the county commissioners.”

I hope everyone realizes how very important the preservation of the hospital is to real estate values in Haywood County. This can not be understated!
