What went wrong at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, NC?

Haywood Regional Medical Center (”HRMC“) continues to be the hot topic of many discussions, meetings, phone calls and of course, newspaper articles. The most recent development in the fallout that has ensued since the government terminated Medicare and Medicaid funding due to potentially dangerous problems with how medicine was administered was the resignation of Dr. Nancy Freeman as Chairman of the HRMC Board of Commissioners. Dr. Freeman has been affiliated with HRMC for 23 years.

What went wrong at HRMC?

“State regulators said they found staff at Haywood Regional made mistakes in administering medicines in more than half of cases surveyed by inspectors and feared punishment if they reported errors.

The regulators’ findings came from investigations done Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and were compiled in a federal report obtained by the Citizen-Times through a Freedom of Information Act request.”
