Frank Singleton, the spokesman for the Cataloochee Wilderness Resort, is answering questions posed to him by the public, and below are the first two questions and answers that were published.
“1. What about all the homes located in your proposed resort areas? Do you plan on buying them out or building around them? One of the articles stated that phase three encompassed 1,000 acres and would include 120,250 homes. How are you going to manage that when there are already many, many homes and acreage already owned there? Do you plan on building the single family homes on zero lot lines like Florida has, practically on top of each other?
Answer: We are in the very early, preliminary stages of a multi-year development, so please understand if some of the answers are incomplete, it’s because we are not at the point where it is possible to answer some questions in great detail. As far as homes already in the proposed development area, some of those homes may be purchased and incorporated into the development. We may have to build around others depending on the property and elements like price, necessity and other options. As with any large-scale development and there are many examples in North Carolina and the Southeast there is a great degree of flexibility and compromise built into the master planning process. Although specific lot sizes have not been determined, the homes and lot size aspects of the development are in keeping with the marketplace of buyers and the aesthetics of the area; generally two units per acre would be a fair average overall. There will be no zero lot line or high-density residential element. Single family lots will be large and the overall development plan includes significant amounts of greenspace and recreational space, as well as wilderness areas.
2. I own property near or close to one of the first three phases. How do I let the developers know I am willing to sell?
Answer: The project works with a separate land buying company that acts as the exclusive agent for acquiring property for Cataloochee Wilderness Resorts. Call 828-280-2165 for details or to speak to a representative.”
Frank will be facing Haywood County’s own version of the White House Press Room soon!
